HOME HEALTHCARE AIDES

In addition to nursing home and inpatient facilities such as Rehabilitation centers, also becoming more common are in-home health aides.  Federal and State statutes have been developed and insure proper care and supervision of patients being cared for in the home.

Is your home health aide certified?

In August, 2008 Attorney General Andrew Cuomo prosecuted the owners of a Brooklyn-based home care service who plead guilty to larceny and were ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $12.5 million dollars. According to prosecutors, the company, coordinated with corrupt training programs to certify prospective aides without requiring them to complete required training, then hired them out to Medicaid patients throughout the New York City Region. In New York all home healthcare aides must be certified and complete a training program licensed by the Department of Health or State Education Department.
